Bechtloff Movie Night: Despicable Me 2 (2013)

I really loved the first Despicable Me, I feel it was the first Dreamworks animated film that rose up to the level of the Pixar movies they compete with. It was charming, memorable, funny and touching. And the sequel lives up to the original.

The plot revolves around Gru, now retired from villainy as he is recruited by the Anti-Villain-League and teamed up with Agent Lucy Wilde to go undercover and foil another villains plans. Gru develops a romance with Agent Lucy and must even save the majority of his minions from becoming mutated monsters.

This movie does a great job of moving Gru forward as a character rather than resetting him to the way he was last movie. Kristen Wiig does her Lola Bunny voice from the new Loony Tunes Show for agent Wilde and it works perfectly. The movie also gives us a little bit more of the show stealing minions than the first one did without making it all about them and beating them to death until they cease to be funny.

If you enjoyed the first movie you will love this one. So if you haven't already, you should see this movie. Although judging by the box office numbers most of America has already seen this.
